February 26, 2012 – Keiki O Ka ‘Aina Anniversary Luau
The halau was part of the line-up for the Second Anniversary of Na Keiki O Ka ‘Aina (the Children of the Land), in Waipouli. This center is dedicated to perpetuating polynesian arts and dance, and hula is an important part of its work. Uncle Phil works hard at raising awareness and funds for the continuation of the center, and we are honored and happy to be of help.
January 23, 2012 – John Deer Co. Welcoming Hula Performance
We were happy to be a part of this celebration, performing for the John Deer Company’s welcome event at the St. Regis. Our young ones had a grand time and it was good exposure and experience for them.
December 10, 2011 – Long Board Contest at Hanalei Bay
Surfing is such an integral part of Hawaiian life and our halau was only too happy to be a part of the opening ceremony of the Long Board Contest at Hanalei Bay. It was a beautifully crisp, cold morning when we started out and it felt wonderful to dance there on the beach in the early light, before the sun got strong and the big crowds came in.
November 12, 2011 – Coconut Market Place Keiki Hula Festival
Of course, our halau was a part of the first-ever annual hula festival for keiki, held at the Coconut Market Place in Wailua. Hopefully, this festival will continue for a long time to come! Darryl Gonzales was our live musician for the event and we had a grand time dancing for a wonderfully appreciative crowd.
October 29 & 31, 2011 – KCA Fall Festival
The KCA annual Fall Festival is one of the events that our halau strives to be involved with every year. We do this to kokua the KCA’s efforts in giving quality Christian education to our keiki here on Kaua’i. And it’s fun for everyone involved, too!
Summer 2011 – varied events
Summer in 2011 was a busy and exciting period for the halau. Our girls were involved in Summer Hula Camp, a Father’s Day performance, and the Wailua Lydgate Outreach. We had a fantastic time!
August 24, 2011 – Huaka’i to Anahola
As part of halau growth and learning, we went on a huaka’i to the ahupua’a of Anahola, during which we visited Keaolani Marti-Kini and the ka wahi kapu o Anahola – cultural and sacred places of Anahola. While we were there, we danced, gave ho’okupu and learned so much about this special place! It was a truly enriching and rewarding experience for all participants.
August 14, 2011 – Aloha Japan Fundraiser at Vidinha Stadium
The halau participated in an islandwide fundraising effort in support of Japan’s post-tsunami rebuilding efforts. The event was held at the Vidinha Stadium. We danced to a live chant by Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, Auhea Wale ‘Oe E Ke Ali’i; it is one of his original compostions.
