Share Da Aloha, a worship hula event organised by Saddleback Church and based in California, is an opportunity for dancers from all over to come together for workshop training and to share their hula. This year, participants hailed from hula ministries in Maui, Kaua’i, Ni’ihau, O’ahu, California, Arizona and Washington. Some were visiting Kaua’i for the very first time, while others were returning home and renewing ties with their families and friends here.
Led by Linda Merrit, this annual convention is run and hosted in different locations every year — this was the first time that it was held in Kaua’i. Kumu Lei was invited by Linda to teach a few workshops at the event and to also share information about hula here on Kaua’i.
Kumu Lei opened the Leaders’ Event with an oli aloha that welcomed the many guests to Kaua’i. This greeting-cum-welcome was enhanced by a beautiful rendition of Aloha Kaua’i, sung by Mayor Bernard Carvalho and danced by Kumu Lei. The three-day event ended with a fun-filled luau at Smith’s Tropical Paradise in Kapaa, where all the participants celebrated the conclusion of their very fulfilling time together.
