2023 Hawaiian Hula Workshops by Kumu Hula Leihi’ilani Kirkpatrick in San Diego

What an honor and what a treat to have our Kumu grace the annual hula workshops hosted and sponsored by Hālau Ka Lei Kukui Hi’ilani Mainland USA Extension and Hawaiian Hula International (HHI). There was much to absorb and we just took it all in. Oli training, breathing exercises to become better chanters, Hula Kahiko and Hula ‘Auana.

This year we honored our Queen Ke Kuini Kapi’olani. We focused on her life and her legacy. She exemplified this ‘Ōlelo No’eau. Kūlia I Ka Nu’u ! Strive to reach the highest!

We also welcomed other hālau in the community and our 4 day workshop flew by as we immersed ourselves in the stories of Hawai’i. This workshop, the highlight of our year, culminated in an Aloha ‘Oe Hō’ike in honor of Kumu Leihi’ilani.

Mahalo Ke Akua ! We can’t wait to have our Kumu back again on the mainland for the next hula workshop in San Diego !

Throwback to April Performances

What a month it was. We were blessed to be a blessing at these shows performed in the month of April. Mother and daughter retreats, Easter Service at Calvary Chapel Līhu’e, Beautifully Flawed Foundation charity fundraisers, and much more. Such an eventful month.

The Hawaiian proverb or “Ōlelo No’eau “Kōkua aku, kōkua mai, pēlā ihola ka nohona ‘ohana” says it all. Family life requires an exchange of mutual help, recognition and blessing. Our families include both immediate and extended families and we embrace all as part of our extended ‘ohana.

Mahalo Ke Akua !
